MSFTESQL-Exchange crashes op Exchange 2010

Op een Exchange 2010 server kunnen de volgende foutmeldingen voorkomen:

Event 4999, source MSExchange Common:

The filter daemon process MSFTEFD exited unexpectedly. Here is the stack trace:

The system exception c000010a was raised at 000007FEF9B60F16. Stack: 

Deze fouten verschijnen voor het eerst na installatie van Update Rollup 4 voor Exchange 2010 SP2 maar zijn ook in UR 5 nog niet opgelost.

Oorzaak en oplossing

De oorzaak is dat de Exchange search engine crasht omdat het een bestand met een onbekende extensie of helemaal geen extensie tegenkomt. Dit is uiteraard niet de bedoeling en het issue is dan ook opgelost in UR6: Update Rollup 6 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 (KB2746164).

Work-around

Voor organisaties die nu niet in staat zijn om UR6 te installeren is er een work-around beschikbaar:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v14\ExSearch

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. Type NeverOverrideAttachmentExtension, and then press Enter.
5. In the Details pane, right-click NeverOverrideAttachmentExtension, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. Exit Registry Editor.
